August 17, 2009. I had a chance to visit a very good friend of mine Alain Debuissy in Makassar in Indonesia. I met Alain in Manila in 2007 after commissioning me to do a painting for him. The French man is a bridge engineer and has done several projects in Luzon(SLEX) and Cebu.

A Torajan Funeral

On August 19, 2009 I took a nine hour bus
ride from Makassar to Toraja.
I hired a motorcycle with a driver guide.
He told me there will be a funeral today so off we go.

On the way posed a souvenir shot of this lovely
Torajan house in the middle of a rice field.

A receiving area for mourners.

Gambling mourners.

The funeral kitchen. Preparing food for the last day
of mourning. Pork cooked in bamboo.

Delicious lunch. Pork cooked in bamboo. Indonesian style paper plate.
After eating it will also be your paper napkin.

Mourners. An advertising billboard in good use behind.

Grieving house. For some reason they say the
coffin should be on the north side of the house.

Posing with the dead. I was surprised when i went inside,
it was as if they were ready for the camera.

and so were the crying...

Waiting...

It wont fit the stairs so they had to do a short cut...

A relative fainted.

A very sad day after 5 months of mourning.

Carrying the dead.
