A Torajan Funeral

On August 19, 2009 I took a nine hour bus
ride from Makassar to Toraja.

I hired a motorcycle with a driver guide.
He told me there will be a funeral today so off we go.

On the way posed a souvenir shot of this lovely
Torajan house in the middle of a rice field.

A receiving area for mourners.

The funeral kitchen. Preparing food for the last day
of mourning. Pork cooked in bamboo.

After eating it will also be your paper napkin.

Grieving house. For some reason they say the
coffin should be on the north side of the house.

Posing with the dead. I was surprised when i went inside,
it was as if they were ready for the camera.

It wont fit the stairs so they had to do a short cut...
